~ The Checkerboard Guy's
Fan Submissions Page ~
Over the years The Checkerboard Guy
has received many different cards, letters, and goodies from various
fans of his show. It's always a treat to receive an unexpected letter
or package in the mail so thanks to all who have gone to various
lengths to show their appreciation of the guy with the crazy off
balance sense of humour and incredible fashion sense. Here are some
of the odds and sods that the CBG has received over the years.
Item
Description: Nate - The Wicked-Cute, CBG-Logo-Wearing
Little Dude!
Date Received: November 24, 2005
Received from/drawn by: Nate's Dad
Comment: An email
arrived from the guy who's done a ton of Graphic Design work for
me over the years with a picture of his son, Nate, all decked out
in his official CBG Onesie. Nate is (at the time of the picture anyway)
seven and a half months old and the premier model of CBG Baby Wear.
The connection is even more significant in that Nate's Dad is the
guy who created the CBG Juggler Logo on the front of the Onesie.
Now if you're looking at this cute little guy and saying to yourself,
"Hey where can I get my hands on one of these fine pieces of
Baby Fashion?" Well unfortunately I'm currently in a zero stock
situation. Originally I only had about a dozen of these done up and
with a recent trend amongst friends to become new parents, my original
stock has been completely depleted - Doh! Still I suppose I could
always get more done up. If you're in desperate need for one, drop
me a line and I'll see what I can do for you.

Description: Wicked Card of "The Checkerboard
Guy"
Date Received: October 3, 2005
Received from/drawn by: James Bylund
Comment:
Well what did I find when
I went to the mail box today but a fantastic package sent to me
by my friend James Bylund. It all started last weekend when I was
in Edmonton where I got to MC my friends Graeme and Alana's wedding
reception. James flew in from Toronto (he used to live in Edmonton)
to do the bridesmaid's hair and mentioned that he had found 'Checkerboard
Underwear' at this store in Toronto. I quickly asked if he's be willing
to pick me up a pair, then when he said yes (almost before he said
yes really) I had my wallet out and was handing him money for said
undergarments. Well... Not only did the 'briefs' show up today (I
got two pairs even...one black and white and the other black and
red) but they were also accompanied by a wonderful checkerboard scarf
and this amazing hand drawn card. He used one of my promo
pictures of me as a base, but did an incredible job with the
drawing. I have such talented friends!

Guy Sketch
Date received: August 14, 2005
Received from: Unknown
Comment: I
had the privilege of performing at the Salmon
Arm Roots and Blues Festival August 13 and 14, 2005, and after one of
my shows on the Family Stage someone (a small someone) came up and thrust
the sketch to the right into my prop case. Before I had a chance to take
a look at the image said person was lost in the crowd, and it wasn't until
some minutes later that I got a proper look at what it was that had
been created. Though a wee bit hard to tell from the reduced size
of the image, I was totally impressed with the detail that the artist
captured. The headset microphone, the checkerboard costume, a juggling
club and a video camera that I used in the performance. I was flattered
that someone, especially a small someone would take so much time
and care to create and then give the image to me, so who ever you
are...thank you!

Item
Description: CBG Beanie Bear
Date
received: Summer 2000
Received from: Chris Gregory and Patti Stiles
Comment: I received this true to life costumed CBG
Beanie Baby from my two dear friends Chris and Patti. They went to
great lengths to ensure that the Beanie Bear was costumed as closely
as possible to what I wear in performance. They even went as far
as to create the checkerboard top hat, red round glasses, and hand
inked the checkerboards onto the white shirt. Needless to say I was
very flattered by the effort that went into this particular item!

Mambo Man
Date received: Christmas 1999
Received from: The Lalonde Family
Comment: I received this little guy from a family
of fans from Edmonton - The Lalonde Family. The Lalonde kids, Madison,
Kelsey and Mitchell, had seen my show a lot this particular Summer,
and I'd make a point of saying hello any time I saw them. When
this little Mambo Man arrived and I read the card I knew immediately
who it had come from and laughed out loud when I pushed the red
button on his hand and he started shakin' his groove thing to "Mambo
Number 5".
